Bentleigh EAST GARDEN
Landscape Design & Construction

Fronting the street is an iconic Bluestone capped, warm stacked ‘Grampians’ Limestone wall constructed to the City of Glen Eira’s approved height with a decadent deciduous Boston Ivy gently climbing up the façade.

path-design-studio_bentleigh-garden_landscape-design_13_1200x800

To the right-hand side, a street facing integrated planter in the same stacked Limestone encases the first of many Magnolias. Directly opposite is the private entry gate, tucked behind the front wall, which allows one to step off the street before entering the property. At night, the street number and garden beds illuminate to showcase this stunning entrance.

Stepping up on the deck leading to the front of house entry area, the warmth of the Merbau timber deck combined with the perfume of the Magnolia trees lining the side boundary create an instant sense of peace and harmony. In the evening, the trees up-lights, path-lights and water feature lighting elevate the garden for a sophisticated night experience.

Stepping into the rear garden, the focus is firmly on the aesthetic functionality of space tied to the stately architecture of the home. Connecting the front and rear designs are a pair of striking custom tall ‘Jade’ feature pots planted with topiarised Buxus balls in the same material as the front garden water feature.

The large timber deck areas seamlessly connect the entertainment room with the main house and a wide unhindered lawn for the children enhances this aesthetic lifestyle. The rich evergreen Ficus hedge bordering the boundary together with the fragrance of Gardenia envelope the space for a truly uplifting experience.

Overlooking the lawn, tucked into the rear is an outstanding timber pergola roofed with decorative laser cut screens for undercover open-air entertainment. The hanging pendant lights and Bluestone crazy-pave complete this oasis set in the heart of all the sumptuous greenery.

PATH embraced the low maintenance garden concept in this stately modern home. Ficus standards lined the front of the property to provide a sense of order and subtle grandeur. Dark pebbles in front of the fence emphasise the minimalist feel with almost zero maintenance for the busy family.

Layered planting along the edge of the property offers interest and creates a calm and serene outdoor space. The resulting gardens complement and soften the imposing architectural styling of this property and provide low maintenance enjoyment.

The lawn lined with selected Lily Pillies and Gardenias on the side and rear of the site was laid with a quality synthetic turf – providing durability in the unpredictable Australian climate and offering year round appeal.

Designed specifically to provide a textured interest to the modern architectural style, PATH created a combination of delights for the senses in this garden. Accent foliage is used to soften the front steel and rendered fence, as well as a subtle welcome gesture. The maple trees provide fresh greens in spring/summer but vivid reds in autumn. Other than layering the ground with their dark handsome glossy leaves, the star jasmines in the understory planting give visitors a scented invitation in spring.

The front garden has two rustic highlights – a bowl water feature and a recycled wharf timber bench, adding character to the contemporary design. Laser cut Colten steel screen featuring bamboo break up the planting bed of glossy dark green of the Magnolia with an artistic visual focus, which light up beautifully when the sun sets.

The sandstone paving leads the visitor to the backyard, where a sparkling on-ground pool awaits. Vertical batten screen dresses the rear fence while providing a contrast to the swimming pool that is partitioned by transparent acrylic glass. A natural limestone walling product, ‘Coolum’ is used to complete the elevated garden bed and swimming pool retaining walls with earthy tones.

The front garden nestles behind a 1.8m high rendered front fence with built-in letter box, step lights and an intercom system. Stepping stones access the back of the letter box. There’s a rectangular open grass area for easy maintenance, and step lights for safety and accent lighting.

The rear garden boundary is wrapped around with Ficus evergreen screen hedges, under-planted with mass pink & white Hydrangeas. The garden now includes a rustic blue-stone paved outdoor entertaining area, slumbering below an open timber pergola. The sloping land has been reduced for easy maintenance, and a connection has been made between the rear garage and the house. The landscape design and construction retained the large 40 year-old canopy tree.

The front garden Landscape Design presents us with a low-clipped Buxus hedge giving rise to the client’s favourite: a rose garden. The entrance to the house is flanked by a pair of French cast iron feature urns surrounded with a mass of red Nandina for added colour. This royal entrance is paved with herringbone patterned brick pavers and Turkish Travertine picture frame border to compliment the house façade.
The side garden boundary is wrapped with a evergreen hedge of Portuguese Laurel trees. Trailing Rosemary drapes over rendered retaining walls softening their edges. Large Travertine stepping stones inter-planted with Dwarf Mondo grasses lead us to the back garden.

Our focus in the rear garden is immediately captured by a generous-size solar heated swimming pool with built-in LED lights. This is comfortably encompassed by a leveled pool deck for sun lounges and open sitting area. Turkish Travertine pavers lighten up the space, with hidden-shadow-drainage under the Travertine stones for the subtle finish. A minimalistic custom copper outdoor shower is located nearby for convenience.

Evergreen Ficus hedge under-planted with fragranced white Gardenia line the boundary lifting us over the spacious open lawn. Fully automated irrigated system for all garden beds and lawn areas. All elements lending themselves to easy maintenance.

The impressive front fence is structured with rendered brick columns, bridged by wrought-iron sections and complimented with self attaching Boston Ivy climber trained up vertically, softening the wall. For privacy Portuguese Laurel hedge lines the fence, under-planted with white Hydrangeas emanating a subtle and sweet fragrance in the warmer months.

Decorative removable timber screens hide the service area whilst an interior window looks onto a shallow bowl water-feature cascading water into the fish pond below. A water feature backed with a vertical steel mesh trained with climbing Star Jasmine, emits the intoxicating fragrance of spring. Tall deciduous pear trees shade the house from the hot afternoon summer sun; in winter letting warm sunlight into the house.
