Embarking on a journey of urban landscape mastery, La Trobe Street Apartments stand as a testament to the seamless fusion of design brilliance and metropolitan allure. While construction was undertaken by Normark Landscapes, PATH Design Studio prepared the landscape design and documentation for both the Ground Floor and Level 7 Green Roof, aiming for a pivotal step toward creating an outdoor haven within the heart of Melbourne. With an Approved Town Planning design, stamped by the City of Melbourne, this project unravels as a celebration of contemporary living.

Strips of yellow led lights are installed on the roof and wall of the transitional tunnel, together with the texture cladding on the roof and wall creating a sophiticated texture.

Located within the heart of the city, the landscape was designed to introduce areas of greenery that seamlessly blend within the surrounding urban fabric. The design consists of two principal areas. At ground level, a linear outdoor space acts as a transition between the busy city environment and the more tranquil residential spaces within the building. At Level 7, an upper garden with communal spaces scattered throughout the whole area. Planting, paving and planter boxes were carefully detailed to create an attractive, low-maintenance and visually flowing transition.

The exit to the alley is more wide open, creating greater connection to the urban fabric, providing seating spaces.

The landscape incorporates practical, low-maintenance elements including synthetic lawn and artificial planting in selected locations. Architectural lighting and reflections across glazed surfaces create a contrasting atmosphere within the more enclosed passageways compared with the open city environment beyond.

The arches on the exit to the busy street create a semi-enclosed space, capturing the yellow environmental light and the reflection on the architecture's glass facade.

La Trobe Street Apartments transcend the ordinary, offering a retreat within the urban fabric. The tunnel illumated with lightings and reflections from glasses provide a different ambience then the open city space.

The Level 7 Green Roof was designed to resemble the radiating form of sunshine when viewed from surrounding high-rise buildings. Synthetic lawn is used across areas of both the roof and surrounding walls, while ‘Tuscan Topping’ rock ballast is arranged to symbolise the sun’s rays. Integrated planter boxes with built-in irrigation complete the rooftop garden and introduce planted elements throughout the elevated landscape.
