The Kew East Garden project is an exciting landscape and carport design currently in the making. This project aims to transform the outdoor space of a charming 1950s home with ‘Northcote Cream’ bricks and black steel window frames into a functional and inviting environment.

One of the standout features of this project is the creation of a new entrance, highlighted by elegant bluestone steppers and lush drifting greenery, offering a warm and inviting welcome. The garden also includes an open grass area, perfect for play or additional car parking space, enhancing the versatility of the outdoor space.

A key element of the Kew East Garden project is the carport design, which thoughtfully reuses the original ‘Northcote Cream’ bricks as a foundation. This foundation is capped with flashing and bluestone for a seamless blend of old and new. The upper façade is clad with James Hardie ‘Axon’ cladding, complemented by a corrugated roof that matches the existing house, ensuring a cohesive aesthetic throughout the property.

Venturing into the captivating realm of Serpentine Garden, where the convergence of artistry and functionality reveals a landscape masterpiece that surpasses the ordinary. This captivating local project weaves together design finesse and practicality, creating a harmonious timeless haven.

In the front garden, a unique white pebbled garden sets the stage, offering a low-maintenance oasis with weed matting beneath the pebbles. Pink granite boulder rocks add a touch of natural elegance, concealing a large stormwater pit underneath—a testament to thoughtful design that goes beyond the surface.

As you wander through this curated space, drifts of Agastache ‘Sweet Lili’ and Royal Purple Liriope bloom, while clipped balls of Westringia Coastal Rosemary and Westringia Blue Gem dot the white pebbled front garden, creating a symphony of colors and textures.

The front garden floating steps, crafted in composite timber, add a modern touch, leading the way through the meticulously planned garden. Whitehorse City Council granted approval for the removal and replanting of 2 trees, with a Blueberry Ash and a Yellow Bloodwood taking root as per the Notice of Decision (NOD).

In the rear garden, a large composite deck takes centre stage, permitted and certified by Whitehorse City Council. This versatile space includes a sunken lounge, under-deck storage, and even conceals a substantial stormwater pump required by engineers. A concrete block retaining wall frames the space, while an aluminum freestanding pergola with built-in louvers and LED lighting adds both form and function. Tall Bamboo ‘Gracilis’ hedges provide a natural screen, ensuring privacy and tranquillity. Throughout the garden, an irrigation system adds the finishing touch, nurturing the landscape to flourish.

Serpentine Garden is not just another project; it’s a narrative of thoughtful design, approved by Whitehorse City Council, woven into every element. Immerse yourself in the allure of Serpentine Garden.

Elevating the landscape to new heights, Bulleen Garden epitomises the seamless integration of design ingenuity and natural topography. Developed in collaboration with custom house builder Latitude 37, this project navigates significant level changes, showcasing a harmonious blend of modern aesthetics and practical construction solutions.

The front fence stands as a testament to innovation—a lightweight construction foam wall in a rendered finish adds contemporary elegance and serves as a canvas to the design. A curved wall graces the landscape, mirroring the sophisticated façade design and creating a visual echo that resonates with the overall architectural narrative.

The landscape’s backbone is the robust concrete sleeper retaining wall demonstrating a fusion of strength and style that masters topographical challenges and adds a sculptural dimension to the outdoor space. The challenge of an 700mm narrow site access also encapsulated the intricacies of construction.

As you traverse the grounds, the exposed aggregate concrete underfoot offers a tactile connection to the raw beauty of the landscape. Bulleen Garden is a symphony of innovation, where every challenge meets creative solutions, and every design element narrates a story of collaboration and craftsmanship.

The front fence & entryway, fronting this remarkable property is a concise steelwork fence powder coated in Dulux ‘Domino’ colour with stately decorative pillars that echo the detailing of the house façade. Upon entering the gate, we are greeted with an elongated Bluestone cobble-tiled walkway with warm Limestone picture frame tiling. These lead up to the lit Limestone clad steps and take you into the covered entryway of the home. The green Buxus border plantings are clipped to perfect symmetry on either side of the walkway. Our Landscape design McKinnon Garden invokes a sense of sophisticated order and uncluttered beauty which our clients desired to suit their lifestyles.

THE SIDE PATHWAY AND FENCE

Coming around the side of the house, down the service walkway is a row of upright Ornamental Pear trees underplanted with gorgeously scented Gardenias. The colour palette is again carried through with the timber paling fences painted in Dulux ‘Domino’ colour. Our Landscape design McKinnon project kept the continuous ambiance throughout the design from paint choices to flora colours which greatly enhanced the harmonious feelings all over the property. More great inspirations for colours can be found on our Instagram page.

The rear garden is encapsulated by the lush green Ficus hedge with the focus being firmly on the rear entertainment decked area. Raised up to match the internal house level so the clients can have seamless continuity of space; the Merbau timber steps and deck adds a stylish exterior entertaining area.

Each timber board has been precisely laid to match flawlessly with the next board and the lighting at night finished the luminous view. Finally, the frameless glass balustrade adds the ultimate touch of sophistication by providing unhindered vistas of the garden. Constructing the landscape at McKinnon was an absolute joy for our team to create and the finish in detailing shows our attention to finesse.

ALDERFORD GARDEN Landscape Design
& Construction

This gorgeous Alderford Garden Landscape Design is a timeless creation with an aesthetically pleasing symmetrical frontage leading through to a purposeful family entertaining area seamlessly incorporated into the rear of the home. Set back from the street’s pathway, varying heights of deep green drifts created with evergreen shrubs back onto a low hedge of Portuguese Laurel.

Landscape Design & Construction Alderford Garden

All this sits afront a stunning 1.2m high fence with dark charcoal metal work and rendered pillars matching the house façade. In the middle, there is a modern entry gate centred on the home’s French entry doors, and to the left-hand side, an automated sliding gate in the same sleek charcoal metal work as the front fence.

Coming off the street and entering through the central gate, one’s line of sight is drawn down the bluestone path to the large French double-entry house doors. The symmetrical border planting leading down the pathway as well as the two beautiful pink blooming Crepe Myrtles on either side invite us in and accentuate the balanced serenity of the front garden.

The boundary fences on either side of the front garden are also a striking highlight in ‘Domino’ black and serve to emphasize the emerald-colored evergreen Fig hedge on the right-hand side. Precise attention was taken when constructing micro details such as concrete corner cut-outs and steel garden-bed edging to complete this clean seamless frontage.

The rear garden and surrounds focus firmly on the aesthetic viewing from within the home and the practical functionality of the entertaining space to bring a sense of extended tranquillity that goes beyond the building’s footprint. The views from the kitchen window and across from the Merbau timber deck area are heightened by the vertical growing Bambusa textillis. This elegant screening plant brings light and fresh greenery to the eyes and the sound of rustling fine leaves to the ears.

Mount Waverley Garden Landscape DESIGN & INTERIOR Design

Mount Waverley Landscape Design. In this stately modern home, PATH embraced the low-maintenance garden concept to create a beautiful and functional outdoor space. The team at PATH recognized the importance of creating an outdoor space that was easy to care for, while still being visually appealing and functional.

One of the key elements of this design is the use of Ficus standards, which are lined up along the front of the property to provide a sense of order and subtle grandeur. Dark pebbles in front of the fence emphasise the minimalist feel with almost zero maintenance for the busy family.

The use of layered planting along the edge of the property also serves to create a sense of privacy and seclusion. The plants provide a buffer between the garden and the outside world, helping to create a calm and peaceful atmosphere. The resulting gardens complement and soften the impressive architectural styling of this property and provide low-maintenance enjoyment.

The lawn was lined with selected Lily Pillies and Gardenias on the side and rear of the site to add visual interest and create a cohesive look. The use of these plants helps to create a natural and inviting atmosphere in the garden.

To ensure durability and year-round appeal, the team at PATH also laid a quality synthetic turf as the lawn. Synthetic turf is a low-maintenance and long-lasting alternative to natural grass, making it an ideal choice for the unpredictable Australian climate.

The use of synthetic turf in this garden design not only offers year-round appeal but also requires minimal maintenance. If you find your property needs that extra hand throughout the year then PATH Design Studio also offers Garden Maintenance services. You can find that here!

Malvern Garden Landscape Design

This gorgeous Malvern Garden landscape design truly showcases the importance of interdisciplinary cross-pollination in the design industry. The custom architect-designed brick house is a perfect example of how different fields, such as architecture and landscape design, can come together to create a cohesive and visually stunning outdoor space.

The use of natural materials and earthy tones in both the house and garden creates a beautifully raw, seamlessly integrated look that enhances the overall appeal of the property. This garden landscape creates a cohesive and functional outdoor space that enhances the overall appeal of the property. It is a true testament to the power of collaboration and the benefits it can bring

Malvern Garden Landscape Design

The front garden nestles behind a 1.8m high rendered front fence with a built-in letter box, step lights, and an intercom system. Stepping stones access the back of the letterbox. There’s a rectangular open grass area for easy maintenance. To ensure the safety and enjoyment of the garden, the design also includes step lights. These lights provide both safety and accent lighting, illuminating paths and steps for easy navigation and adding a touch of ambiance to the outdoor space.

Malvern Garden Landscape Design

The rectangular open grass area is a key feature. Its simple and straightforward layout makes it easy to maintain, as there are no intricate plantings or features to care for. The grass is also low-maintenance, requiring minimal watering and mowing to keep it looking its best.

The rear garden boundary is wrapped around with Ficus evergreen screen hedges, under-planted with mass pink & white Hydrangeas. The garden now includes a rustic blue-stone paved outdoor entertaining area, slumbering below an open timber pergola. The sloping land has been reduced for easy maintenance, and a connection has been made between the rear garage and the house.

The landscape design and construction retained the large 40-year-old canopy tree. The design and construction of this Malvern Garden were truly a joy of creation for us at PATH. You can view more of David’s inspirations in his latest article here.
